How they managed to write this with only passing reference to Jaynes I have no idea. I’ve only skimmed it, my only concrete criticism at this point is that they talk about model-checking and don’t (afaik) seem to see that this can be cast as Bayesian updating.

Using ubuntu hardy

To check the filesystem: sudo fsck /dev/sdb1

To mount it

To check what the filesystem table says about it sudo gvim /etc/fstab

To make it read-writable chmod 777 /media/disk

To mount sudo mount -rw /dev/sdb1 /media/Nabla -t ntfs

To unmount sudo umount /media/nabla

Might need to make the Nabla directory first.

To mount ntfs drives gksudo ntfs-config (be careful with this, my advice is only to mount for special purposes or read only. If your data is not very valuable then go for it).

An Age story titled caesareans-take-toll-on-babies makes positive claims about causal links between caesarian babies’ health outcomes and whether they were exposed to vaginal bacteria. We should certainly like to know if it turns out there is strong evidence that widespread application of pro-biotics could save lives, but I wonder how strong it actually is. Found a few powerpoints but no current directory listing at UNSW BABS for Conway. Most likely their directory is out of date. Is Kate Benson a natural birth campaigner? Is there anything to the beneficial vaginal bacteria theory?

We’ve had the technology for desktop 3D apps for years but can you think of a useful application where the controls are navigated in some sort of 3D geometry? No.

We already have networked 3D environments. Mostly use them for games. I don’t see this changing in a hurry. Maybe progress in remote gestural and voice control will speed things along. Or special glasses with network information overlayed, connected to GPS to let us literally run around in a virtual environment.
